AIM OF THE PROGRAM

The aim of the program is to educate competent staff for accounting and consulting agencies and accounting departments of firms. To achieve this aim, the program presents some important qualifications to the students. The main qualifications of the program are to understand the basic knowledge in the field of accounting and functions and importance of the accounting, to follow the related regulations, to gain the ability of forming accounting records and performing financial analysis. Another aim of the program is to serve competency related to position of tax law in judicial system, basic concepts of tax law and taxation process.

In today`s rapidly digitalizing world, students are prepared for the future with the use of the digital base by the accounting profession.

DURATION AND CONTENT OF THE EDUCATION

Accounting and Tax Applications Department gives a 2-year education and during the education students take courses such as Turkish Language, Ataturk`s Principles and History, Foreign Language, Computer, General Accounting, General Management, Office Management and Communication Skills, Mathematics, Economics, General Law, Macroeconomics, Trade Mathematics, Commercial Law, Statistics, Financial Management, Computerized Accounting, Cost Accounting, Foreign Trade Enterprises Management, Human Resources Management, Entrepreneurship, Money and Banking, Tax Law, Labor and Social Security Law, Financial Statement Analysis, Business Budgets.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Accounting and tax applications program is a high education in four semester program that educates qualified personnel for accounting departments of both public institutions and organizations, also private firms. In addition, if graduates will have provisions, they can set up their own accounting agencies. It is intended that graduates have the following learning outcomes.

  • To make journal entries recording to regulations.
  • Explaining the characteristics of business firms
  • To explain partnership operations and unfair competition.
  • To gain practical skills in office layout and personnel management.
  • To know the legal responsibilities as an accountant
  • To recognize the commercial documents and classify auditing standards.
  • To perform financial mathematics practices.
  • To recognize the basic concepts about economy, capital markets and foreign trade.
  • Have the ability to use the computer and the required packaged software
  • To use computer programs related with accounting.
  • To collect data, evaluate the results and convert data to the series.
  • To explain importance of issues related to research, development and execution as an individual or a group.
  • To make calculation related with taxation.
  • To perform financial analysis and interpretation and understanding cost accounting.
  • To explain the business ethic.

SECTORS AND JOB TYPES THAT GRADUATES OF THE PROGRAM CAN BE EMPLOYED

Another objective of the accounting and taxation programme is to provide the necessary education for students who will help fill the void about account and finance in accounting offices and departments of accounting and finance in commercial firms. 
Apart from the theoretical knowledge, this programme provides the development of students` knowledge with applied training, too. The internship on the job supports theoretical knowledge which is learned in the program.
Students who have graduated from the programme can employ as an accounting staff in the accounting and financial consulting offices, relevant departments of the foreign trade and financial institutions and accounting departments of the various institutions and public and private companies.
Students can complete their undergraduate educations either get education without exemination in the Open Education Faculty or get education in a faculty by succeeding DGS. If a graduate can complete the undergraduate education, he may have a profession named either independent accountant and financial advisor or certified public practitioner. So, the graduates can open their own accounting offices.

In addition to these, graduates of the Accounting and Tax Applications department can pass the Vertical Transfer Exam (Dgs) and the Open Education Undergraduate Programs of Anadolu University Open Education Faculty, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration; Open Education Undergraduate Programs of Atatürk University Open Education Faculty; Istanbul University Open and Distance Education Faculty has the right to pass to the Associate Degree Programs that can Prefer Open Education Undergraduate Programs (It will be possible to enroll in the 5th Semester of the Programs without taking Difference Courses) with DGS. The sections with the right of way are as follows;

WORKSHOP AND LABORATORY OPPORTUNITIES

There are computer labs and computerized accounting labs in the program.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

Students who have graduated from relative departments of the vocational high school that their students access without examination to the program be eligible to enter the program. Other high school students access to the program as long as succeed to the exams that are practiced by OSYM.
