ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program is a four-semester program that provides education and training to train technicians in the installation, manufacturing and operation of heating, cooling and ventilation systems. The program has switched to a 3+1 Workplace Education Model as of the 2024-2025 Academic Year. With this model, students will have an applied internship process during the 4th semester.
PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
The purpose of the program is to meet the need for qualified intermediate technical personnel who are equipped with professional knowledge and skills sought by the public and private sectors, who follow the technology of the day and continue to improve themselves, and who act as a bridge between engineers and technicians. In this context, it is to train technicians in the installation, manufacturing and operation of heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
EDUCATION - TRAINING
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is made through the exam system conducted by the Student Selection and Placement (ÖSYM) Center. It is required to be a high school or equivalent school graduate and to be placed by obtaining a sufficient score as a result of the TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) conducted by ÖSYM.
TERM AND CONTENT OF EDUCATION
The program will be carried out with the 3+1 workplace education model. Within the scope of this model, 3 semesters of the education provided over 4 semesters are organized as formal education and 1 semester is organized as full-time applied education in businesses. The following courses are taught to students throughout the education.
1st Semester: Vocational Mathematics I, Scientific Principles of Technology, Vocational Drawing, Workshop Operations and Applications, Air Conditioning-Cooling Concepts, Computer Design,
2nd Semester: Vocational Mathematics II, Cooling Service Operations, Air Conditioning Principles, Cooling Principles, Air Conditioning-Cooling Electricity, Business World and Entrepreneurship, Sectoral Occupational Health and Safety, Installation Technology, Natural Gas Installation
3rd Semester: Ventilation Systems, Air Conditioning and Cooling Laboratory Applications, Electrical Control Circuits, Cooling System Design, Air Conditioning Systems, Commercial Cooling Systems
4th Semester: Vocational Training in Business
In addition, in the first year, they learn culture courses such as Atatürk`s Principles and History of the Revolution, Turkish Language, Foreign Language. Students receive workplace applications training in workplaces related to their professions for one semester throughout their education.
TITLES AND WORKS GRADUATES HAVE DONE
Those who complete the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program are given the title of "Air Conditioning-Refrigeration Technician". Air conditioning-refrigeration technicians carry out the works planned for the construction, installation and operation of heating, cooling and ventilation systems of buildings under the supervision and management of the mechanical engineer; they assemble the engines, lay the pipes, and perform the maintenance and repair of the system.
DURING THE EDUCATION
During the education period, students can also benefit from the student loan provided by the Credit and Dormitories Institution and the loan and scholarship opportunities provided by other public institutions and organizations.
AFTER THE EDUCATION
Air conditioning and cooling technicians working in public institutions and organizations after the education receive wages according to the coefficients and compensations stipulated in the Technical Services Class of the Civil Service Law No. 657. The wages of professional staff working in the private sector are determined by mutual agreement.
AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN
In addition to being effective in repairing faulty equipment, an air conditioning and refrigeration technician must also fully understand the design and function of various air conditioning and refrigeration systems. During their duties, the technician will work together and in collaboration with individuals at various levels of air conditioning and refrigeration engineering and production.
FIELDS WHERE GRADUATE STUDENTS CAN MAKE VERTICAL TRANSITIONS
Those who successfully complete the "Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology" associate degree program can transfer to; - Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program
- Energy Systems Engineering Undergraduate Program if they are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exam opened by ÖSYM.
WORKING AREAS AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Professionals are employed in all private sector and public institutions that provide/receive services and produce in the fields of air conditioning, cooling and ventilation. Example: Arçelik refrigerator factory, İklimsa, air conditioning and cooling services, cold storages and companies that manufacture and install cold storages, companies that manufacture commercial coolers, companies that manufacture and install ventilation ducts, air conditioning and ventilation project design offices, factories, shopping malls, business centers, hotels, etc.
